Multiplication quiz

Take the Times Tables Quiz

Test your multiplication knowledge with mixed questions from the 1 to 12 times tables.

Questions appear in random order, so you need to recognize each multiplication fact rather than simply continue a familiar sequence of multiples.

QUIZ QUESTION
8 × 9 = ?

Try to recall the product before looking for the correct answer.

Why Are the Questions in Random Order?

Reciting a times table in sequence and answering an isolated multiplication question are related, but they are not exactly the same task.

6×
IN SEQUENCE 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48...

When the question is simply 6 × 8 = ?, you cannot rely as easily on starting at 6 and moving through every previous multiple.

4 × 7 28
8 × 6 48
9 × 12 108
?
Answer before studying the choices

Try to recall or calculate the product yourself first. Then use the available answers to submit your choice rather than using them primarily to guess.

After the quiz

Use Your Quiz Results to Decide What to Practice

A quiz result is most useful when it helps you identify which multiplication facts need another look.

CORRECT + QUICK Keep moving

If the answer comes to mind easily and is correct, that fact may need less attention during your next practice session.

CORRECT + SLOW Practice recall

A correct answer that requires several calculation steps can still benefit from additional practice.

INCORRECT Review the fact

Work out why the correct product is right and practice that multiplication fact again.

REPEATED ERRORS Review the table

If several mistakes come from the same table, return to its individual lesson for focused practice.

When you get stuck

Use a Strategy Before Checking the Answer

A quiz can also reveal which facts are not yet automatic. If you cannot recall a product, reconstruct it from a multiplication fact you already know.

×4 4 × 7 = 28

Double 7 to get 14, then double 14: 14 × 2 = 28.

×7 7 × 8 = 56

Start from 7 × 7 = 49 and add another 7: 49 + 7 = 56.

×9 9 × 7 = 63

Start from 10 × 7 = 70 and subtract 7: 70 − 7 = 63.

×12 12 × 8 = 96

Combine 10 × 8 = 80 and 2 × 8 = 16: 80 + 16 = 96.

→
Then practice the fact without the strategy

A calculation strategy helps you recover an answer you do not yet recall. Afterward, try the same fact again and work toward retrieving the product more directly.

Improve your result

What to Do Between Quiz Attempts

Repeating the quiz immediately is not your only option. Use difficult questions to guide a short period of focused practice before trying again.

1. Identify the facts you missed Review
Notice which multiplication questions produced incorrect answers or took much longer than the others.
2. Look for a common table Focus
If several difficult questions involve the same number, such as 7 × 6, 7 × 8 and 7 × 9, practice the 7 times table separately.
3. Reconstruct difficult answers Understand
Use doubling, nearby facts or another known multiplication fact to work out the correct answer rather than simply memorizing the correction.
4. Practice those facts again Repeat
Give extra practice to the facts that caused difficulty instead of repeating every multiplication fact equally.
5. Return to the mixed quiz Check
Try mixed questions again and see whether the previously difficult facts are easier to retrieve outside their normal sequence.

Quick answers

Times Tables Quiz Questions

What is a times tables quiz?

A times tables quiz presents multiplication questions so you can check which facts you know. This quiz mixes facts from several tables rather than presenting one table in sequence.

Which multiplication tables are included?

The quiz uses multiplication facts from the 1 through 12 times tables.

Should I practice one table or take a mixed quiz?

Focused practice is useful while learning a particular table. A mixed quiz is useful afterward for checking whether you can recognize those facts when they appear among questions from other tables.

What should I do if I get a quiz question wrong?

Work out the correct answer, identify the multiplication table involved and practice that fact again. If several errors involve the same table, review that table separately.

How can I improve my times tables quiz results?

Give additional practice to facts that are incorrect or slow to recall, then return to mixed questions to check them again.

Should I answer multiplication questions quickly?

Correct answers are the priority while facts are still being learned. Faster recall can become a goal after the multiplication facts are consistently accurate.

What is 7 × 8?

7 × 8 = 56.

What is 12 × 12?

12 × 12 = 144.
